Little Tears
by
Doug Green 1995
I wish I were a fluffy cloud
Oh, don't you know I'd be so proud
To float up in the sky all day
And watch the children laugh and play
But if their smiles turned upside down
My darker side would come around
And if a child began to cry
Then huge raindrops would fill the sky
For too many kids have seen too much pain
Instead of sunshine, they have rain
It's brought on by the ones who really should care
The ones they depend on to be there
Oh, why are the children hurting so
Shouldn't parents be required to know
Abuse and hurt, both physical and mental
Can only prove to be detrimental
To yell, to hit, to break, to bruise
Before adults in anger choose
They should think back to their childhood years
And all their "little" childhood tears
And try to make a better life
No gun, no fist, no fire, no knife
No tempers flared beyond control
Through all our problems, let love show
For someday soon, these will be gone
To bring up children of their own
And they'll look back to the way we were
When our grandchildren begin to err
For you're not just raising a generation
You're raising the future of our great nation
And unless we change before it's too late
We'll raise up children filled with hate
So let the dark clouds roll away
And help the children grow today
In happiness, love, respect for others
So they'll be proper dads and mothers
